Open call: Dear Doc Fellowship for Programmers / Doc’s Kingdom 2024

We’re accepting applications from film programmers and moving image curators from all over the world who wish to participate for the first time in Doc’s Kingdom – International Seminar on Documentary Film.

Two individual fellowships will be offered [covering the participation in all activities of the seminar, accomodation and meals] to candidates with previous confirmed experience as film programmers, making them eligible to apply for the Doc’s Kingdom annual call for programmers in the future.

Dear Doc is a programme composed by different fellowships that aims to make the Seminar more accessible for a diverse group of fellows, while deepening the educational and collective dimensions of the Seminar. On top of covering the costs of participation in the seminar, the programme comprises exclusive talks and activities before the beginning of the Seminar.

Please note: We will later open the application process for the Dear Doc Fellowships aimed at students or emerging professionals working within the field of cinema, Portuguese or resident in Portugal.

GUIDELINES:

1. Purpose and Availability: The Dear Doc Fellowship for Programmers is designed for individuals with prior experience in film programming who are participating in the seminar for the first time. Two individual fellowships will be offered.

2. Coverage: The fellowship covers participation in Doc’s Kingdom 2024 in Odemira, including access to all screenings, debates, and activities scheduled from November 18 to 23, 2024. It includes accommodation, meals, and on-site transportation but does not cover travel expenses.

3. Exclusive Activities: Fellows will participate in exclusive activities one day before the seminar begins. These may include meetings and talks, listening and reading sessions from the Doc’s Kingdom Archive.

4. Deliverables: Participants are required to produce one written piece at the end of the seminar, to be delivered by December 10th. This may take the form of short texts, interviews, or essays about the seminar or the films screened.

5. Participation Requirements: Acceptance of the Dear Doc Fellowship for Programmers 2024 requires full participation in all scheduled activities in Odemira, and are encouraged to actively participate in the collective debates during the seminar.

6. Application Process: The application period closes on Sunday, July 21 (midnight, GMT+1). The Doc’s Kingdom team will be responsible for the selection, and results will be announced by the end of July. The selection decision is final and not subject to appeal.

7. Validation of Fellowship: The fellowship is confirmed only after acceptance and compliance with the described conditions.

8. Non-Guaranteed Participation: Applying for the Dear Doc Fellowship does not guarantee a spot as a regular participant in the seminar if the application is unsuccessful.

9. Responsibility: Doc’s Kingdom is committed to being an open and inclusive space for all participants, including filmmakers, fellows, visitors, staff, and partners. Doc’s Kingdom is not liable for any issues arising during the stay in Odemira that fall outside the scope of the program or the provided accommodations.
